Our Founding Fathers over two hundred years ago said for our democracy to work, we needed an educated citizenry. Libraries and books are a major part of that apparatus. I listened with great sadness the other day, to a news clip. Only fourteen percent of our population read for fun. What a miserable statistic. And as a former Library Commissioner, to hear on top of that, many of our libraries are being defunded and book banning is occurring, adds to my sadness. Hopefully, in time things will change for the better.
